IT ALL STARTED WITH A BOX of scrap fabric that my mother kept in her sewing room. As a little girl, I’d often rummage through her collection, admiring all the fabrics, textures and colours. My mother taught me how to sew and make knick-knacks for my siblings using all sorts of fabrics from worn out jeans to corduroys to flannel pajamas—whatever I could get my two hands on. I was raised to conserve and reuse everything. So, I started creating sentimental things—dresses for my sister’s doll, pencil cases for my friends, and hand-embroidered cards for my mother.
TO THIS DAY, some twenty-odd years later, my friends and family still cherish these mementos and I’m still delighting people with my craft. I’ve always felt that the only thing more exciting than making a gift for someone special is seeing the smile on their face when they receive it.
Recraft is my dream, my love and my baby.
